Hello, and welcome to my new and improved website! This post is just going to give you some insight as to why I decided to redesign and more importantly simplify the design. Since starting my new job at Clearlink, I have been learning a lot of new things about UI and UX. As well as componentizing websites. Some of you may have visited my previous site and got a little bit lost due to the unorganized nature of the site. My goal for the new build was to get rid of that aspect and bring you something much simpler yet much more effective at getting my message across to the users visiting my site. Another key reason as to my redesign is this, I created Spennycreative v1 while I was still in school at the Davis Technical College. Since I have been out of school I have had so many plans to rebuild my website, yet lacked the time due to my 9-5 and having quite a bit of freelance work coming in last year.
Goals for Spennycreative v2 Website redesign:
- Simplify the design
- Create even padding and margins
- Add in a little bit of animation
- Create consistency with the buttons and content
- Increase site speed
- Set up blog
If you take a look at the photo below you will notice that the typography is horrible on the blog post.. plus it is very hard to read due to the color choices. Also, this is actually the blog landing page and let’s be real, no one wants to see the entire blog post on the landing page. I wanted to make it so you had options on the blog landing page. Adding a side bar was very important to be for navigation sake. I want my users to be able to access everything I have to offer without having to get lost in the process.
Another thing that I left out on my previous website is the comments portion of the blog post… Well, I didn’t leave it out, I just never got around to customizing the styles (as you can see from the photo below). One of the reasons I really wanted to start creating blog posts was not to exercise my journalism skills, more so to create informational guides for my clients, in case they had questions like; How do I log into my WordPress dashboard? or How can I upload media to my media library once logged into my dashboard? Which is why having a usable comment area is so valuable, people can comment and request specific topics for me to write about. I want to be able to answer questions and create easy to use guides.
Well, that will conclude the Website Redesign topic, tune in next time. Also, if you have any topics you would like discussed go ahead and leave a comment and I will add it to the list!
